The Best Dog Parks in Pinecrest, Coral Gables & Coconut Grove

One of the things we love most about living in South Miami is how easy it is to enjoy the outdoors — including with our four-legged family members. From neighborhood dog runs to large, shaded parks, Pinecrest, Coral Gables and Coconut Grove all offer great places to get outside with your pup.

Here are a few local favorites worth knowing.

Pinecrest: Pawcrest Park

Pawcrest Park is Pinecrest’s dedicated off-leash dog park, located at Suniland Park. It has separate fenced areas for large and small dogs, giving pups a safe place to run and socialize.

It’s especially convenient for Pinecrest residents because dogs are generally not permitted in Village parks, with the exception of Pawcrest Park and Red Road Linear Park. Pawcrest is open daily from 8 a.m. until dusk.

Why we like it: It’s easy, neighborhood-friendly and in the heart of Pinecrest.

Coral Gables: “Unofficial dog park” @ Matheson Hammock Park

The “Unofficial dog park” is located inside of Matheson Hammock Park, on the west side of Old Cutler Rd, across from the Fairchild Tropical Gardens. A lovely trail in the woods will take you to the open space where dogs are welcome.

The Park is being remodeled so access is not allowed at this time. It should be ready by the fall of 2026. More to follow soon.

Why we like it: The Park is so beautiful, and large. It feels like you are in the countryside, or a natural preserve. The nature trail is very wild.

Coral Gables: Chewy Bark Park

Chewy Bark Park - Coral Gables at 4500 Ponce de Leon Boulevard is a convenient option for Gables residents. Located along The Underline, it makes it easy to combine some off-leash playtime with a longer walk.

The park's turf surface is also a nice South Florida bonus, particularly after one of our afternoon rainstorms. And the park offers water for our pups! 

Why we like it: A convenient urban dog park that can be incorporated into a walk along The Underline, and providing a water break!

Coral Gables: Chapman Trail Dog Park

For something a little more tucked away, Chapman Trail Dog Park offers a completely different experience. The setting feels much more natural and removed from the city, with plenty of greenery and separate dog areas: for smalls and larger dogs.

It's a great choice when you want the outing itself to feel like an adventure rather than just a quick trip to the dog run. One tip: bring water for your pup, particularly on hot Miami days.

Why we like it: Peaceful, green and wonderfully removed from the bustle of the city. The drive in the mangroves is spectacular to reach the park. And there is an additional trail that will bring you to the Bay!

Coconut Grove: Coconut Grove Dog Park

Coconut Grove Dog Park at 2171 South Bayshore Drive is one of the area's most popular choices. The dedicated dog area sits within a larger park setting, so you can combine off-leash time with a walk, picnic or some time enjoying the outdoors.

With its relaxed atmosphere and location near the Grove's waterfront, it feels very Coconut Grove.

Why we like it: You can turn a simple dog walk into an entire morning or afternoon outside.

Coconut Grove: Blanche Park

For a smaller neighborhood option, Blanche Park at 3045 Shipping Avenue is a favorite among Grove residents. It offers a fenced dog area along with shade, drinking fountains and a children's play area.

It's less of a destination and more of a true neighborhood park — exactly the kind of place that becomes part of your routine when you live nearby.

Why we like it: Shady, convenient and very much a neighborhood gathering spot.

A Dog-Friendly Side of Miami

The parks are different, but that's part of their appeal. Pinecrest offers a quiet neighborhood setting, Coral Gables mixes beautiful green spaces with more urban options, and Coconut Grove brings its signature laid-back outdoor lifestyle.
